For the protection of both players and volunteers, AYSO requires all volunteers to:
- Complete and eSign a volunteer application each and every year.
- Be authorized to perform their job by an AYSO Region, Area, Section, National Board or other AYSO authority.
- Complete AYSO’s Safe Haven (child, volunteer protection) training, and
- Be properly trained for their job (job training).
These requirements help ensure that volunteers receive all the protection they are entitled to under the Volunteer Protection Act and any Good Samaritan laws while providing for the protection of players and complying with municipal, state and federal legislation. Training our volunteers also strengthens our program and helps with retention.
This table outlines the recommended training schedule based on the division you will be coaching. The Basic track is the minimum level of training you will need in each division. The Better track outlines recommendations for you to develop your skills as a coach, to pass-on greater knowledge to the players. The Best track outlines recommendations for those coaches who are looking to fast-track their development as a coach, to both provide better player development as well as volunteers looking to coach in our more competitive programs.
